We have been learning about different cultures. To see what we know, we played Carmen San Diego. Our teacher found 3 cases for us to investigate. My favourite was finding the Mask of Tutankhamun. We had to find the evil ‘VILE’ crook. I giggled to myself because VILE is an anagram for evil.
I found it fun because it used Google Earth Voyager. I would like to learn to create my own game, in the app google earth.
In one of the games, I got lost and couldn’t find the villain.
With our Inquiry about water we had a visit from Katherine from Water Care again today talking about water use and filtering water. It is amazing to think that individuals use 170 litres of water per day and only 2-3 litres of that is what we are required to drink.
The water was yucky, and we had mixed results for the filtering systems. From the systems I have seem before the water passes through the course objects first like bark and then sand, as you don’t want the dirt or sand going throught hole into the water tank. Then it should go through the cotton balls and then the paper last. We learnt that the harder the filter is packed the slower the water will run through.
Welcome to Kowhai Ruma, we have moved spaces and have a lovely new space to work in. We also have a new name KŌWHAI.
We are excited to be back at school and in our new ruma.
The Kōwhai tree stands out in the forest because of the bright yellow flowers in spring.It is a smally woody tree that frows in New Zealand by the edge of the forest or by streams, they love the sun.
Kōwhai trees have smooth bark, small leaves and grow to at least 8 metres in height. They flower from July to November attracking birds such as Tui, Kereru, and bellbirds who like ot sip the nectar from the flowers.
The Kōwhai tree symbolises personal growth, sense of adventure and the ability to move on. We are moving on with our new space, love adventure – so see what we geet up too, and can’t wait to grow more.

WALHT create mood in a piece of writing using a writing frame. Our teacher showed a picture and we had to choose a feeling/emotion to go with the image. We were allowed to use our imagination to change the image into a possible disasterous situation. E.g. the Queenstown luge, thrilling exhilerating, anxious, nervous…
Words we needed were place, adverb, verb, colour, sound, smell, touch, time of day and the weather. These words were added to a writing frame, then we created a piece of music to add to the mood while we read the story aloud. Here is an example…

Tuesday we were split into groups some of us went to Weta Workshop others went to Dali Exhibition and the final group participated in an Art Project with Lou Flower. Mrs Mundy took a group to Weta Workshop at Sky CIty Centre. On the main door was a padlock and sign saying don’t enter creature loose.
We have been lerning how to measure different parts of a shape, including perimeter which is the outline of a flat shape, area the inside of a flat shape and the volume of a 3D shape.

We are learning about having a smart fooprint. This includes knowing what information to share online, things people should not share includes, your full name, address, phone number, studnet Id number, bank account number, passwords and date of birth. As people can use this information to steal your id.
We have been looking at operating systems for different devices and now we are learning about the binary code.
