Farewell Kōwhai

As I move into a new role I say farewell to Wesley Intermediate and my wonderful class Kōwhai. Next year there will be a new teacher with a new blog for their class. All the best for 2023!!

Athletics Trials

Due to the weather today and forecast for the rest of the day we are having athletics only for those interested in going to Central Zone Tuesday 22 November. I found it interesting the number of students who said Miss put me down for this or that and then didn’t show up, because yes they did need to register their interest in an activity to participate.

The day started with the races, the longest to the shortest. Some students were deteremined to run in every single event. We tried to warn them but off they went. The field events were different though as you could try out for more than one, it was just to wet to attempt high jump.

The frustrating part was we had very little rain.

Camp Week

Last Week Wesley Intermediate went to camp. Well most of them, a few had to stay at school. This is a recount of what I did at Totara Spring Camp

Wednesday

On Wednesday I:

  • Travelled to Totara Spring,
  • Listen to instruction for the activities
  • Rushed to set up my cabin
  • Returned to here about the activity groups and went on our way
  • Forgot the key for Kayaking
  • Was helped out of the river by Tau’ataina
  • Dinner was Lasagne

My favourite part of the day was being on the water, I love to kayak. I didn’t think I was going to get a chance to be on the water because the first instructor asked us ot be on land. But we decided the right turn needed ot be modelled so student could see how to do it against the current.

The worst part of the day was swimming in the current, it was stronger than I thought.

Next time I would ensure we have a person behind us with the rope to help when we get runaway kayaks.

I was pretty happy we all had great time even if the water was cold.

Community Event

Last night we invited Parents and local community members to the school for kai and information. There was a range of information from the Local High Schools, to Current classrooms, to services from the Community Centre. Everyone enjoyed the food and the social catch up. Check out the photos…

What did you like about the evening?

Celebrating Matariki

Today we joined Wesley Primary early, at 6:30 we were able to start viewing the stars using ipads and skyview app. I am not sure who found Matariki first, but it wasn’t me. From 7 we could join the activities and have share kai, yummy! BBQ sausages, scrambled eggs, porridge, weetbix, fruit, tea, coffee and milo. It was great to be able to have something warm.

There was a range of activities… many of our Wesley Intermediate Students who joined us played on the courts. In the hall you could colour, read, eat, weave a flax flower, paint a rock (that had a gold shimmer to it). In the tent you could make poi, weave a star, fish or ball.

One of the best part was catching up with people we don’t usually see, like previous teachers. Check out the photos.

Samoan Language Week

What a wonderfully busy Samoan Language Week. There was an opening assembly, investigation into Samoa, places we could visit in Samoa, Food, Dances and lots of Learning.

Room Room Attended the Ako Hiko Student Toolkits, we checked out how to create a pick a path. Check this one out about Samoa by Paul and SeeMe.

We checked out Google Maps and found places of interest, the capital and the hightest mountain.

After the final assembly each team had a fed. Team Karearea had Chop Suey and Rice with donuts and juice. YUM!

We are also hoping to have a ‘News Feed’ for you but are still filming and editing.

Stand Up Speak Out

This week was Stop Bullying Week, we had to do some research about the history of this and they types of bullying. We had options where we could create a poster, a video, or word art to promote this week.

We had a bake sale and sausage sizzle to raise money for mental health. We even dress up, check out our PINK!
