Operating Systems

In Robotics we are learning about operating systems. We used scratch to show 3 different operating systems and explain what they operate.

Check out my Scratch DLO to find out what I know about operating systems.

Multiplication Boxes

We have been checking our understanding of timestables. Did you know the 3×4 can be drawn in a box 3 squares by 4 squares? And the squared numbers such as 9, 16 and 25 when drawn make a perfect square, that is it has even sides.
By Lennox

It was easy colouring the squares. I found it interesting that numbers that are make square are called squared numbers. I had never learnt about square root before.

Language Week

This week being the end of term was full of a range of task to do and complete, students had the choice of investiating chinese Language or Tuvalu Language.

This presentation was complete by Tina and Shannon. They had fun creating the information they found in canva and converting to Google Slides. Great work Ladies.

Camp Week

Last Week Wesley Intermediate went to camp. Well most of them, a few had to stay at school. This is a recount of what I did at Totara Spring Camp

Wednesday

On Wednesday I:

  • Travelled to Totara Spring,
  • Listen to instruction for the activities
  • Rushed to set up my cabin
  • Returned to here about the activity groups and went on our way
  • Forgot the key for Kayaking
  • Was helped out of the river by Tau’ataina
  • Dinner was Lasagne

My favourite part of the day was being on the water, I love to kayak. I didn’t think I was going to get a chance to be on the water because the first instructor asked us ot be on land. But we decided the right turn needed ot be modelled so student could see how to do it against the current.

The worst part of the day was swimming in the current, it was stronger than I thought.

Next time I would ensure we have a person behind us with the rope to help when we get runaway kayaks.

I was pretty happy we all had great time even if the water was cold.

Water Care

With our Inquiry about water we had a visit from Katherine from Water Care again today talking about water use and filtering water. It is amazing to think that individuals use 170 litres of water per day and only 2-3 litres of that is what we are required to drink.

The water was yucky, and we had mixed results for the filtering systems. From the systems I have seem before the water passes through the course objects first like bark and then sand, as you don’t want the dirt or sand going throught hole into the water tank. Then it should go through the cotton balls and then the paper last. We learnt that the harder the filter is packed the slower the water will run through.

Character Profiles

We have been investigating Characters I  the books we read. we started by listening to Mrs Mundy Read a book by Tim Shoemaker and had to record what the main characters were like. We talked about the Protagonist and Antagonist.

Then we investigated what we know about different characters we know from the TV. We looked at a couple of clips of Popeye before we completed a character Profile, which is really useful for knowing about our characters before we write, and to see how they have developed during reading a novel.

Creating Graphs

This week in Kowhai we have been learning how to interpret data from graphs we have made. First we gathered information and noted it in our books. We practised creating a bar graph, pie chart, and a tally chart.

When we put the information in to google sheets we did a quick test to gather a range of numbers. This was put into a sheet in a column and we created a scatter graph.

I forgot how to change the colours so Tina had to show me. Add adding a title after I had started making the graph, was a challenge the first time then I found it in customize.

Student Led Conference

Wednesday and Thursday we had Student Led Conferences. I wasn’t looking forward to them as I had to share my learning with Mum and Dad. We had to talk about what we are learning this term, our learning goals and things we have done this year that we are proud of doing.

Coming up with ideas for goals was a little tricky so we brainstormed ideas as a class.

Tables Angles

We walked into class to find the tables taped up. I wondered what on the world, our teacher never lets us write or draw on the tables why is there tape there? After she explained the task we had to identify 6 different types of angle on our table. Then we had to use the protractor to measure the angles. It was fun writing on the tables the measurement of the different angles. There was lots of learning.

Angles are important. can you think of why we need to know about angles?

Our New Ruma

Welcome to Kowhai Ruma, we have moved spaces and have a lovely new space to work in. We also have a new name KŌWHAI.
We are excited to be back at school and in our new ruma.

The Kōwhai tree stands out in the forest because of the bright yellow flowers in spring. It is a smally woody tree that frows in New Zealand by the edge of the forest or by streams, they love the sun.

Kōwhai trees have smooth bark, small leaves and grow to at least 8 metres in height. They flower from July to November attracking birds such as Tui, Kereru, and bellbirds who like ot sip the nectar from the flowers.

The Kōwhai tree symbolises personal growth, sense of adventure and the ability to move on. We are moving on with our new space, love adventure – so see what we geet up too, and can’t wait to grow more.
