Farewell Kōwhai

As I move into a new role I say farewell to Wesley Intermediate and my wonderful class Kōwhai. Next year there will be a new teacher with a new blog for their class. All the best for 2023!!

SLJ – Hearing Colour

Wow, what fun, I learnt a lot today, the new screencast app by google is neat to use to record with. Creating music using specific instruments and stamps to make the music or sound. Here is an image of my music using colour.I picked in the Sky for this piece because I love blue and the idea of flying and being free.

Or you can watch this video of my first attempt…

This piece was made with ‘On the Street’ and seems a lot darker, even looking at the colours it comes across as frenzied and dangerous. What kind of music would you make?

SLJ – Paint with Music

I used ‘World Cup’ by Ishowspeed because I enjoyed the high notes that were inspiring. Here is how I see the music. I heard the music without knowing. the name of the song and had green at the bottom, once I knew the name of the song and the focus I added the football.

I really enjoyed using sumo paint as I haven’t used it for a while.

I also listened to ‘Here to Stay’ by General Fiyrah. The beat was neat and fun to listen to here is my colour image for the song.

This was fun making my own piece of music.

Point of View Reading

Our group was reading a story called Something Alive. I can kind of relate as I come from Tonga, although I have been there I don’t know everything about Tonga. I found the task easy because I used the story as a reference. I knew about first point of view and third and I want to know about second point of you.

Investigating the World

We have been learning about different cultures. To see what we know, we played Carmen San Diego. Our teacher found 3 cases for us to investigate. My favourite was finding the Mask of Tutankhamun. We had to find the evil ‘VILE’ crook. I giggled to myself because VILE is an anagram for evil.

I found it fun because it used Google Earth Voyager. I would like to learn to create my own game, in the app google earth.

In one of the games, I got lost and couldn’t find the villain.

Pinching the Pot

As part of our cultural diversity study we created a pattern on paper from our country of investigation. This pattern we then had to try and make on a piece of clay.

Our teacher forgot that the bell goes at 12:50 and we packed up early.

Athletics Trials

Due to the weather today and forecast for the rest of the day we are having athletics only for those interested in going to Central Zone Tuesday 22 November. I found it interesting the number of students who said Miss put me down for this or that and then didn’t show up, because yes they did need to register their interest in an activity to participate.

The day started with the races, the longest to the shortest. Some students were deteremined to run in every single event. We tried to warn them but off they went. The field events were different though as you could try out for more than one, it was just to wet to attempt high jump.

The frustrating part was we had very little rain.

Navigating the Journey

WALHT Navigate the Journey?

Which journey you ask, the life journey we all undertake. We are looking at the decision we might make and how they could affect our lives. Who we can turn to for assistance and to guide us when making big decisions.

Power of Number

We have been learning about squared numbers and the phrase ‘to the power of’.

I like how 10 to the power of 8 is just 1 with 8 zeros on the end a much quicker way to write it. I even learnt that squared numbers make a square when coloured in and the square root is the opposite of a squared number.

Rewriting a Tale

We are trying to change a story from 3rd person / narrator to 1st person. We had to:

  • Pick a fairy tale we know so we can rewrite it.
  • Brainstorm a fairytale from another characters point of view. I choose to do mine from Hansel’s view.
  • Add words to describe my character Hansel – oldest, brave, gets lost, aware of step mother’s feeling.
  • Add the pronouns I need to use for 1st person perspective – I, we, me, my, our.
  • Check we have the main events from the story and number in order to remind me to use paragraphs.
  • Then we had to write the open paragraph.

Here is my first paragraph:

Gretal and I woke up to fighting. They were at it again, Dad and our new Step Mother were arguing about food and how she thought we all wouldn’t survive. I remembered times when Mum was alive and she would go without so Gretal and I would have enough to eat. I’m sure that was why she got so sick she died, but I couldn’t tell Gretal that.

I found this easy once I put myself in the position of my character.
